2017 Weststar Maxus G10 SE Launched In Malaysia; 10-Seater, 2.0T, 225hp, RM158k

Weststar Maxus Sdn Bhd has launched an upgraded SE variant of its Maxus G10 large multi-purpose vehicle. The Chinese-made 10-seater was introduced into the Malaysian market in 2016; this updated variant adds a number of new features to give even better value to its consumers.

A product of Shanghai-based SAIC Maxus Automotive, the G10 is a direct challenger to the Hyundai Grand Starex Royale, which offers seating capacity for 11 people from RM164k onwards. The Maxus G10, on the other hand, can be yours for RM157,888 with insurance for individual private registration.

Unusual for an MPV of its size, the G10 is powered by a petrol engine, one displacing two litres and turbocharged to provide outputs of 225hp and 345Nm. Don’t be fooled by the engine cover’s transverse orientation though, the block beneath sits length-wise and sends drive astern through ZF’s 6HP 6-speed automatic transmission.

New features in the G10 SE include double panoramic glass roof, powered sliding doors with anti-pinch on both sides, and an uprated Car-Link infotainment system that includes a 360-degree camera system.

The company brochures cheekily describe a 15-inch touchscreen, but do be warned that the actual touch area covers only a fraction of the free-standing screen’s space – a big chunk of space is taken up by a digital clock.

For safety, the G10 SE adopts the latest generation ESP9.1 electronic stability control system from Bosch, in addition to existing features such as ABS, EBD, dual airbags, and ISOFIX mounts.
