The all-new Proton Persona receives a safety rating of 5 stars by the New Car Assessment Program for South East Asian Countries (ASEAN NCAP) on the day of its launch. The rating is given as an extension of the 5-star rating awarded to the Proton Iriz earlier and is applicable to all variants of the Persona on sale in the Malaysian market.

In a statement released by ASEAN NCAP, it was clarified that, ‘as the Persona is the sedan version of Iriz, with comparable occupant protection to the Iriz, ASEAN NCAP is extending the rating of Proton Iriz to the Persona. This move was adopted as ASEAN NCAP feels the volume of the car is not yet available to justify the test.’

The statement nevertheless added that as the Persona’s volume grows in the market, ASEAN NCAP might consider subjecting the vehicle to an actual crash test.

According to the official ASEAN NCAP results, the Persona scored 14.07 out of 16.00 points for adult occupant protection, qualifying it for a 5-star Adult Occupant Protection rating.
